Adaptive learning platform for Smart Sparrow · EdTech SaaS
Educators wanted to build adaptive courseware. Most of them had never designed anything. I built the system that made the difference invisible.

Role
Founding Designer
Led the visual and interaction design of the platform, partnering with product managers, engineers, instructional designers, and learning scientists to build a scalable product framework that improved usability, reduced cognitive load, and supported long-term growth.

THE CHALLENGE
Every course looked different because every educator invented their own layout. Students met a new interface each module. Engineers built the same components per project. And the company raised Series A and B from Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation.
Brief: one framework, flexible enough for lecturers, predictable enough for students, fundable enough for a boardroom.
THE INSIGHTS
User feedback revealed inconsistent navigation and interaction patterns. Educators needed flexibility, while students needed predictable, intuitive experiences. These insights informed a modular framework with reusable components, clear information hierarchy, standardized interactions, and accessible design.
Key Decisions
Standardized navigation and interaction patterns
Balanced educator flexibility with system consistency
Prioritized accessibility and reusable components
Created patterns that streamlined collaboration between design and engineering

THE RESULT
Delivered a scalable product experience that enabled educators to create adaptive courseware while providing students with a more intuitive and consistent learning experience.
Supported multi-phase funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Improved consistency across learning modules
Reduced design and development effort through reusable components
Enhanced navigation, usability, and course completion
